Thy Word Is A Lamp Unto My Feet

9/7/2020

Psalm 119:105 - Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

The verse found in this picture is the central verse we chose for livinglight youth. We chose it because we want our work for the church to be a blessing and glory to God. We want to encourage not only the middle and high schoolers, but everyone in the church to be the light of the world, and we cannot do it without God’s Word to light our path.

A recurring imagery in this verse is light. Darkness is the absence of light. Without light, though we can walk, we can’t see where we’re going. We are moving aimlessly. This verse is a metaphor for our walk with God. How can we walk with Him if we can’t see Him? We need The Word to be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Without it, we will stumble and fall.

This verse has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s actually the first verse I ever memorized. It comes up whenever I have stalled in my daily Bible reading. Sometimes, when it’s been weeks since I’ve picked up my Bible, this verse will be in the back of my mind, reminding me that I should spend some time with the Lord.
