Winter 2020 YP Online Hymn Concert
In Philippians, Paul writes, “Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel” (Phil. 1:12, NASB1995).
At the end of 2020, on New Year’s Eve, there was an International Young People’s Hymn Concert, hosted by saints from church in Cleveland Heights, Pittsburgh, and Beijing. There were 28 performers from 8 different cities and many more friends from all around—so many that the zoom room got filled up and others had to watch via Facebook live. The young people played their favorite hymns and testified to how the Lord has been real to them over this past year. It was so sweet to see how the Lord can use all our circumstances to show us how good He is and to draw our praise from our lips! One performer was even able to pray to receive the Lord afterwards. Hallelujah!
During the concert, there was also some sharing on Annie Johnson Flint, the writer of the hymn “What God Hath Promised.” The hymn speaks to the truth that God may not remove all difficulties from our lives, but He certainly will walk beside us and give abundant strength and grace all the way through. This was proven in her experience again and again, and we pray it would be our experience as well.
After this concert, there was a sense among the planning brothers for the young people to continue to be together in a spiritual manner, and so an international bible study group for young people has formed out from the participants and audience. Updates From The Gospel ClubCheck out some encouraging updates from the gospel club!
First experiences of preaching the gospel Due to the Covid era, we have been encouraged to innovate means of preaching the gospel. Some ways we have tried are preaching through online gaming chats, instagram prayer requests (over 15 requests were received!), and going to a local grocery store with a cardboard sign asking to pray. Our First Gospel Meeting We executed our first gospel meeting over Zoom on November 1st. Three gospel friends attended, none of which are currently in fellowship with any of our local churches. We started with an icebreaker, and then some of the young people introduced and played through a hymn. Afterwards, someone shared a testimony about the Lord’s impact on his friend group throughout high school, which was followed up by another hymn, this time played through YouTube. The meeting concluded with a five minute gospel message (by the club team leader, next time will be by young people) introducing the need for salvation, and a prayer to receive the Lord. We pray that the Lord would continue to open hearts in these days of uncertainty! |
